Carrie Matthews
Clinical Social Worker / Therapist / Educator / Program Consultant
I’m a Registered Social Worker with over 15 years of experience supporting individuals through life transitions, trauma, emotional overwhelm, and identity exploration. My practice is warm, grounded, and collaborative — rooted in trauma-informed care, emotional resilience, and a strong commitment to equity and social justice.
In therapy, I work with people navigating anxiety, depression, burnout, self-worth challenges, financial strain, parenting stress, relationship patterns, grief and loss, addiction, and the weight of societal and systemic pressures. I draw from evidence-based approaches such as EMDR, ACT, CBT, DBT, and MI while creating space for clients to reconnect with their values, strengths, and sense of possibility.
In addition to my clinical work, I serve as a national program consultant in the public sector, where I contribute to service design, leadership, and policy development. I also teach at Memorial University, leading graduate-level courses in social work theory, leadership, and social policy. Across all areas of my work, I’m committed to creating spaces that are reflective, affirming, and action-oriented.
As a therapist and parent, I understand the realities of balancing multiple roles while striving to feel whole, grounded, and aligned. I meet clients where they are — with curiosity, compassion, and a belief in their capacity for change.
I offer both virtual and in-person sessions in St. John’s, NL. New clients are always welcome.
